The chipping technique
is just like when putting only oscilating. Swing
just as far back as forward without using the wrists and
keeping the head still. The swing shouldn't be that big
since one would only chip with the ball within approximetly
20 yards of the flag. If the swing gets too big one loses
control of the shot. Therefore the club shouldn't be lifted
any further than you knees.
Since you don't need to lift the ball perticulary high
the ballposition be pretty much in the middle between
your feet and the hand just a bit further forward. You
should go for having the hands infront of the face of
the club for as long as possible in the chip. If you're
having trouble chipping I promise you that these tips
will cut some strokes of your score.
During the time on the national team with Jesper Parnevik
and Per Ulrik Johansson we rarely saw Jesper on the range.
He'd always rather spend his time on the course. Jespers
father Bosse had also built a pitchingrange in the backyard
of their house in Österskär. Today we knew where
Jesper was when the rest of us where hitting thousands
of balls in Tumbatältet!
At the golfuniverity we would often have betting on different
games such as "Texas", "Back gammon"
or "Bridge". This put us under pressure and
forced us to save the pars and make birdies on the shorter
shots. These golfingformats and lots of other courseplay
where strokes within 110 yards required maximum concentration
also gave results. Jesper was usually the one saving pars
and making birdies to win the games.
I met Per Ulrik Johansson for a few weeks during PGAs
educationweek. Per Ulrik is the type of golfer that always
put alot of time on his shortgame. He played in the same
college team in Scotsdale, Arizone as Phil Michelson among
others. Phil has one of the greatest shots around the
green today. Tiger Woods has improved his wedge over the
last years and the results speek for themself.
Ballesteros is another player with a magical touch. Havig
rolemodels is important when you're practicing your shortgame
and it also inspires to try new shots from different locations
around the green. |
