Exercise within 1 yard o the hole
(no further):
1. Do 3 practiceswings where you check that the face
of the club goes straight back and forth withouth twisting.
Only look the the club and not the ball.
2. Hit 3 putts with a ball where you check that the
face of the club go straight back and forth withouth
twisting. Look just at the club and not the ball.
3. Do 3 practiceswings where you check that the hands
are stiff (without bending or twisting). Look just at
the hands and not the ball.
4. Hit 3 putts where you check that the hands are stiff
(without bending or twisting). Look just at the the
hands and not the ball.
5. Repeate these excercises but hold the grip a little
tighter.
These excercises will make you a better short putter
and especially under pressure. Why? Because you have
total controll!
See the LINE!
Bill Garret showed during his 62-stroke round in SEO
(Scandinavian Masters in the 80's) what good putting
truely means. His strong side when it came to putting
was always seeing the line of the putt.
He keeps the ball forward in the stance and keeps his
head diagonally behind the ball. That way he can see
the line and the hole in the corner of his left eye
(righthanded player) at all times without having to
look up at the target.
Many make the misstake of lifting the head and looking
at the hole horizontally. This doesn't display the line
in the same manner.
Excercises withing 2-3 yards of the hole. (no
tilt):
1. Set up above the ball and try to see the invisible
line that goes from the ball to the hole.
2. Set up above the ball and turn your head only a few
inches so as to see the hole in the corner of your eye.
3. Hit 3 putts where you hit the ball without looking
up.
4. Hit 3 puts where you hit the ball along the line
when your only looking at the hole through the corner
of your eye.
Do these excercises in combination with the hand/face
of the club-excercises. It gives you even more controll
and a "feel" for the hole.
An error that many people do is lifting the head and look
at the hole horizontally.
Tilt your head to the side instead and get the line of
the putt in the corner of your eye.
If you aim the text on the ball towards the hole it will
be easier to see the line of the putt when standing above
the ball.
